“Do not regret growing older, It is a privilege denied to many” –
When Comparing and contrasting the two poems of Plath and Thomas, it can show similarities of sharing the same identity of thoughts related to one another’s ideas. Themes are what the poem is developed around, and with this Poem “Mirror – Sylvia Plath” introduces the theme of ageing, appearance and Honesty, while the poem “Do not go gentle into that good night – Dylan Thomas” introduces the theme of Death and Dying. Symbolism is what suggest ideas than defining them to the reader and is established within both poems. Language devices such as metaphors, personification, alliteration and similes are also introduced within these poems. Imagery is a device in poetry of where words of the poem make the reader see in their own imagination. Death and ageing are ideas that are easily compared to one another but can also be contrasted side by side by how the poet and readers view it. Within One poem, Dylan Thomas wanted to show that with life choices and consequences there is a reason to live, and he shows his father that through categorizing four different classes of men in life.
Themes in poems is the message the poet is trying to convey to the reader, it’s the main idea of the poem. Following this, the theme of Ageing and Appearance are introduced by the Poet Sylvia Plath in Mirror. The Poem is written in a First person point of view and because of this, the speaker is the Mirror. To some extent it’s connected with the theme of the Honesty of Appearance, Honesty itself and Aging of woman. The mirror describes itself in the poem by stating "I am silver and exact.
