Crime Causation and Diversion

There are many programs that exist in this country that are designed to help keep the youth of today out of the prison system and to grow to become law abiding productive members of society. This paper will compare two juvenile programs that operate within the state of California. This paper will explain how the programs work to reduce juvenile crime based on an analysis of the relationship between program premise and goals and a few of the major causes of juvenile delinquent behavior. This paper will do this by explaining the programs major goals, objectives and core beliefs. This paper will also show who the key participants of these programs are and what services they provide to these participants. The paper will also identify which program of the two that are being compared is more effective at reducing juvenile crime and give reasons for the paper’s assessment.

Here in the United States the welfare and safety of our children is paramount. There are many organizations out there that specialize in keeping and maintaining the youth of today on a path away from crime and violence. Some of them are for profit and others are non-profit that attempt to accomplish those goals. Some of the programs are federally funded, some are state funded and others still are city funded. Most cities in this country have a Parks and Recreation Department that offer the youth of that particular city a safe environment within which to play, get homework help, learn a craft or participate in various sports and other outdoor events and learning experiences such as field trips. Aside from the local Parks and Recreation Departments there are non-profit organizations. Two are the more prominent ones are the YMCA and the Boys and Girls Club of America.

YMCA

The YMCA is the United States largest non-profit organization. Oddly enough the YMCA was founded in London in 1844....
