Best Buy has come up with a new, innovative approach to the idea of work. The results-oriented work environment program, also known as ROWE, is the conceptualization that gives employees the ability to work whenever and from wherever they choose. Through this self disciplined style of working, employees must still fulfill all necessary duties and requirements of a regularly scheduled workweek. This newly experimental procedure has shown promising results, with a sharp decline in turnover rates. Also included in the findings are that productivity, job satisfaction and team-performance steadily on the rise.

I think that the ROWE program is changing the face of Best Buy, not in just how they function on a day to day basis, but who they choose to hire. In my opinion, I feel that Best Buy will now start looking to those prospective candidates that share the same ideals of the ROWE concept and those that possess the ability to be self- motivated and personally accountable. I believe this to be true for their selection process as well. Best Buy is going to look more towards an applicant that can handle completing tasks and goals without the need for constant micromanagement and rigorous scheduling. I think that they will look towards more independent-minded people who are able to work well in the means of their own scheduling, but also be a part of a team striving together to attain the company’s vision. In this circumstance I think that it would be highly effective for Best Buy to prescreen potential employees with personality tests to see if they are a better fit for the program’s design.

As far as the employee training method, I would like to think that it would have to still be based on a preset scheduled center. I think that it would be rather difficult to try to educate an employee in a training program that has a “start when you want” policy.
