Sex Education within Public High Schools

Abstract:

Sex education is a somewhat of a forbidden topic in school, but it might be very helpful to openly talk about it. It can help educate those who do not know many things, or don’t know the scary truth. There can be lots of ways to protect teenagers from disease and teen pregnancy. Most of the sources used in this essay were ncsl.org , washingtonpost.com, and progressivestates.org. I researched most of the topics on Google, where I found lots of informational articles. The essay was not so hard to write and was pretty informative.

Sex education has been much of taboo. Sex education in high school is the teaching of anatomy, human reproduction, and sexual intercourse. Sex in general is an unspoken topic, and if one is ever to imply it to teens, they are criticized. Sex education in school has always been a controversial topic due to how adults, parents, and school districts perceive it. These programs should be offered in every public school in the United States to further show teens how to prevent diseases, teen pregnancy, and to give them answers to their questions.

The topic of sex has been controversial since the beginning of time. Chastity and abstinence until marriage was the only choice, and even after marriage, sex was unspoken of. Many people did not know sexual transmitted diseases existed. They barely knew the human anatomy of the opposite sex’s body. When the public found out a disease existed, they titled it VD (venereal disease) and it so happened to threaten birth rates and mutations in children. The first sex education rally was in 1905 and it was led by Dr. Prince Morrow. He organized the American Society for Sanitary and Moral Prophylaxis to speak on VD and the dangers and troubles.
