There are a variety of jobs available in the health care field and most of them require some sort of training and education. Therefore it is important that all employees are properly trained and educated in order to fill the job requirements. In this paper I will explain why training and education are vital in health care and the importance of measuring competencies. I will also describe the process for tracking and evaluating training effectiveness.

Training and Education

Training and education in the health care industry is vital to the success of the organization. The health care industry is forever changing with new procedures and technology, this why health care organizations must remain in line when it comes to training and educating employees. Training is a process that focuses on providing people with specific skills and helping them correct any skill deficiencies that may hinder them from performing their job correctly (Gomez-Mejia, L., Balkin, D., and Cardy, R. (Ch. 8. pg 246)., 2010). Education is the process of acquiring the knowledge and skills needed for a profession. Both training and education are critical because people depend on the knowledge, skills, and training of health care professionals. Organizations, employees, and individuals could face devastating consequences if health care professionals are not properly trained and educated. Training and education are also vital because both can help enhance an employee’s competency as it relates to the job.

Measuring Competencies

Competencies are the characteristics associated with successful performance (Gomez-Mejia, L., Balkin, D., and Cardy, R., 2010).
