Human Resources Information System Development at Riordan Manufacturing
The current HRIS system at Riordan Manufacturing was originally installed in 1992 as a part of the FIS (Financial Information System). Being well over twenty years old, the system is outdated and in need of a significant hardware and software upgrade. This service request (Sr-Rm-022) guides the development of a new human resources information system which will be a stand-alone system, separated from the financial system. This new system should be inclusive and more cohesive than the current system, which is segregated and relies on antiquated methods of keeping up with data.
Initial Evaluation
Currently, Riordan Manufacturing has seven individual systems to manage various employee and company data. These consist of employee information, development and training records, applications and open positions, workers benefits, attendance, financial, and employee relations. In this configuration every one of these systems is separated from one another, and needs to be individually evaluated before the new integrated system can replace them. These systems have their own personnel, and it is key that each of them be interviewed for feedback on the current system to help eliminate flaws in the new system. Secondly, the current systems hardware, software, and in-use processes should be evaluated hands-on to gain further insight for the new system. Thorough notes should be taken in every step of the process and saved as reference materials while developing the new system. By consulting the end-users and the system itself it will provide adequate analysis of the current system, and how the new system must function.
