Electronic Health Records

Electronic Health Records is data of patient health information that is produced multiple meetings in any care delivery settings. The medical industry is growing rapidly at a fast rate with everything being computerized. Many hospitals, clinics, and doctors’ offices are converting from paper records to electronic health software. By converting to electronic health software they have the less chance of losing patients valuable information or their information being filed into the wrong section or with another patient’s information.

One benefit to the patient

The benefit for the patient is that Electronic Health Records give the patient’s doctor knowledge they need to make sure that they receive the most accurate medical care provided. This can reduce medical errors and not receiving the same type of service on each visit. Other benefits to the patient are the quality, accessibility and efficiency that Electronic Health Records have.

One aspect relating to the values and importance of maintaining patient confidentiality when using this mode of communication.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) were signed into law in 1996 which states that can look into patients medical records. HIPAA Law set limits to the use and release of medical record and have a privacy standards for healthcare providers. Providers must let the patients of their HIPAA privacy and security rights. Working in the healthcare field you will eventually have some privacy concerns that can get an organization in legal trouble(Medical Records.com, 2009-2012). For example there could be some glitches in the computer system that can lead to the hospital or doctors office give out the wrong information on a patient. Or system could be shut down for days...
