The Web Is Not Yet Suitable for Learning

In this article, the authors Bork and Britton, point out at the major weaknesses of distance learning.They don't agree with the current method of delivering the education. They feel that the first major problem in our current education system is that the students dont learn and it is not acceptable to blame the students. By conducting an experiment in Chicago Public Schools with his students, Bloom tries to prove that any student can learn and master anything as long as the students are given individualized attention. I dont agree with Bloom because as the population is increasing the competition for learning is also increasing. It should really be upto the students to make that decision to educate themselves so they can have a better future. I feel that anyone who has the motivation to learn and compete will learn either by going to libraries, by attending classroom lecture or a web based courses. All they need is the desire to learn and gain knowledge and this desire should be instilled in their minds from their childhood and this should be the parents responsibility. Once the student realizes the importance of education, they can overcome any hurdles that come in their way.

They also discuss that the interaction available on the Web today is really weak and they need a high degree of interaction to learn most effectively. Again, I dont really agree with this point either because it does not matter how the information is delivered as long as the information is delivered and the reciever understands the message as it is intended to deliver. The author also mentions about the network problems which is not really a big issue with so many high speed internet connections as cable and T1 connections. Again, the whole purpose of the web based course is the convenience of completing it from anywhere you want and having access to the information at any time, be it early morning or in the middle of the night, as...
