Abstract
The subsequent case, Guin v. Brazos Higher Education Service Corporation, plaintiff Stacy Guin alleged that Defendant Brazos Higher Education Service Corporation, Inc. negligently allowed the dissemination, by way of burglary, of nonpublic personal information. Brazos’s Finance Department would provide all pertinent information pertaining to its customers via electronic files to John Wright in order for him to effectively and efficiently perform his duties. However, on September 24, 2004, Mr. Wrights home was burglarized and among the items stolen was the company laptop that contained non-public personal information of Brazos’s customers. The defendant, from a legality standpoint, may have failed to exemplify appropriate disclosure and safeguarding of consumers’ personal information. Consequently, acknowledging the theories of ethical thoughts—consequential, deontological, and humanist theories—broaden one’s perspective of ethical behavior. Brazos Higher Education Service Corporation Inc. corporate culture exhibits an organization built on providing prestige service within the student loan industry. It is important for any organizations to adhered to laws that govern their course of business, as well as, what issues arise that challenges their moral and ethical values.
Introduction
It is a bit unsettling to learn that one’s non-public personal information has been compromised.
