Personal Ethical Statement

The Ethical Lens Inventory is a great exercise that helps an individual understand more clearly where they stand on their personal ethical views. Personal ethics include an individual’s values and principles that are significant to that individual in his/her academics as well as in everyday life. Ethics are personal morals and principles that define that person. The decisions and choices that an individual make on a daily basis should be done so with honesty and respect towards others. If an individual follows his/her ethics then their happiness and peace with be upheld.

By completing this assignment, I learned many different aspects of myself when it comes to my personal ethics. According to the exercise, I learned that my personal preferred lens is the rights, responsibility, and relationship lens. I use rationality to govern the rules that an individual should follow. By doing this it will assure fairness and justice for everyone in a community. My core values that govern my personal ethics include autonomy, equality, and rationality. According to this exercise, my classical values include temperance and justice. I value balance in society. I believe that I am fair and responsible. I tend to believe that other individuals are also fair and responsible.

My definition of ethical behavior is when a person accomplishes all of their obligations and does the right things. Another big aspect to me about a person being ethical is that everyone is able to have a chance to succeed specifically those that are not in a power position. When it comes to analyzing a problem, I normally think a problem all the way through and do research to find out which option maximizes the benefits. It is important that the decision I make is a very well informed decision.
