Abstract
Startups often are characterized by instability, innovation and high growth. But, we often miss out on the software
aspects of today’s mostly tech startups generally started by people in their mid -twenties. The culture of the
company is the fabric of the organization that mostly stems out from its people, its processes and its purpose.
While 44% startups fail within 3 years as the study shows, it is the percentage of the startups that cease to exist
after 5 years of operations. These points out the fact that revenue which had driven the business of startups in its
initial years suddenly started drying up. Culture is one factor which mostly goes neglected into organizations
which fail to sustain themselves after years. Culture is something which needs to be nurtured by the promoters
themselves to breed loyalty and motivation. Thus, a lot of onus lies on the promoters for building/creating desired
culture. Our report analyses the various factors and elements of the startup culture and then we do a study on
Indian startups. Startup culture in India has been compared vis-à-vis Japan and USA. The effect of local culture
on startups has also been discussed because it plays an important part in the DNA of the startup. The challenge of
sustaining the culture in its growing phase and the ways of dealing with has also been given in the report. Fi nally,
