METHODOLOGY

At the start of the experiment, twenty (20) pieces of ten-peso coins have been collected. From these, ten (10) were randomly chosen as samples for the experiment. The samples were placed on a clean tissue paper to avoid being tinged with fingerprints. An analytical balance has been used to measure the weights of the samples. Prior to sampling, two (2) watch glasses have been prepared. The watch glass has been placed initially on the analytical balance, then the equipment was tared. Taring is the process of reverting the analytical balance to zero and continuously weighing of the additional samples Forceps/ tongs has been used to transfer the coins into the analytical balance. The balance was being tared every after each coin. Already-weighed coins were kept on the balance until the sixth coin. The same process has been done until the last piece of sample.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

One of the objectives of the experiment is to be able to properly use an analytical balance and practice the correct procedures of obtaining ther weights of the samples using it. After the data have been collected, the experimenters must kept from incorporating fingerprints into their samples before weighing because those might add up to the sample’s original weight. It is also for this reason why forceps or crucible tongs were used in handling the coins, instead of bare hands. In addition to this, the watch glass was dried completely to remove the weight of the water contents. The watch glass was needed to be emptied because the analytical balance would have reached...
