What is Information Systems?

Information Systems is a business application of the computer made up of the database, application programs, and manual and machine procedures; including the computer systems that does the processing. (The Free Dictionary.com)

• Data Processing-stores the master’s files (vendor files) and the transaction files (activities). Also the application program provides data entry, updating, query, and report processing.

• The Procedures- (1) Manual documents how the data is obtained and how the system’s output is distributed. (2) Machine instructs the computer how to perform scheduled activities, whereas, the output of one program automatically fed into another.

• Transaction processing-is the daily online work, interactive processing of business transactions and updating of customer, inventory, and vendor files.

• Batch processing-at the end of the day and other periods, programs print reports and update files that is not updated daily, routine file maintenance such as adding and deleting employees and changing product descriptions (The Computer Language Company).
