Annette Lareau believes that there’s a positive parent-child relationship would have a positive influence on children’s growth and academic achievements. With better academic achievements, his or her children will have a better chance of succeeding in better career in the future. Likewise, Blau and Duncan also emphasize the same view that a positive association between affirming family and children’s well being are highly correlated to the child’s future success. However, there are some distinct differences among the sociologists.

Annette Lareau delves onto the idea of concerted cultivation, where middle class parents have the best chance of fostering a well-educated and successful child among other different social classes. Middle class parents tend to take an active role in development of children, despite the fact that they are constantly busy doing their own work, because they have provide their children with more resource, such as after school program, activities, and tutoring programs. They make sufficient income, which are more likely to provide their children better education and activities. Generally, most middle class parents work tediously hard, and have better educational attainment and vision for their children. They are more capable of teaching their children important values and producing more insightful conversations in the dining table.

In contrast to middle class, Annette Lareau believes that working-class and poor parents tend to care less of their children, and not be able to organize activities for their children due to their financial inabilities. Working-class and poor children typically find themselves entertainment or something to do. While middle-class children get to participate in different programs and activities, working-class children don’t have much to allocate their time.
