Public relations in the western world mainly concentrate on the fact of creating awareness and forming public opinion. The tools used are generally different ways which would transfer the message efficiently to the public. In other words, Western PR is about telling stories to the media and convincing them to accept placing them in newspapers & audiovisuals for example to shape newsworthy information. Consumers are more likely to mix advertising and PR in most of the cases as they assume that the message delivered in the media is a part of journalism’s product. However, a newsworthy story published in a newspaper has a stronger effect than any other advertising campaign. Not only does western PR use advertising tools but marketing ones also. The difference between marketing and PR is that marketing sells products and services while PR promotes persons, organizations, governmental issues and other corporations. Apart from marketing, PR in the west is often used to create events, campaigns, spins, increase public profiles of organizations, support crisis situations and change the public’s view over different situations. Therefore, PR is considered as an invisible mean playing an important role in the everyday life of the consumers.

Public relations originated from America In the beginning of the 2Oth century. Since it’s creation it has developed into a tremendous wealthy industry which turned out to become a complete factor of today’s business and political environment.

Recently, it has been revealed that despite the economic crisis, PR in the west in continuously considered as a worthy practice by companies and is valued as a vital department contrarily to advertising which revenues has been decreasing through the last years.
