1.0 Introduction

1.1 Problem Statement

Rapid Penang began operations on 31 July 2007; it is a new bus service in Penang. From operations until now, lots of problem has been occurred. It includes price, punctuality, security and facility problems. It does not satisfy passengers’ need.

1.2 Purpose Statement

The purpose of this report is to identify the problems faced by Rapid Penang’s passengers in Penang and whether the Rapid Penang services is able to fulfill their passengers’ needs. It is also identify how they can improve their services.

1.3 Authorization

Pn. Mahaliza binti Mahadhir who is our lecturer of Business Report Writing authorizes report entitled an evaluation report on the services of Rapid Bus Company in Penang. This report was to be submitted on 28 April 2011.

2.0 Background/ Overview

2.1 Background Information of Rapid Penang

The Malaysia Federal government’s move to operate bus services in Penang came about when the Ailing bus network in the state started showing signs of collapse. The bus operators of Penang have been facing financial difficulties for many years but the situation became critical when one of Penang’s largest and best know bus companies, the Yellow Bus Company Limited, which had been operating for 58 years, suddenly stopped running on 1 January 2004, leaving thousands of commuters stranded. On 1 April 2006, the Penang state government revamped the entire bus network in the hope of improving the bus service in the state. Under the revamped routes, bigger buses were made to run along “trunk” routes whiles minibuses ran “feeder” routes which branched off trunk routes. The revamp however failed to improve the situation, leading the Penang state government to state that it was looking at following the revamp which Kuala Lumpur underwent. In February 2007, Penang chief minister Dr Koh Tsu Koon announced that the Federal government had agreed to operate a bus service in the state. On 31 July 2007, Rapid Penang...
