In today’s business world, organizations are working hard to remain successful because of the economy still somewhat on a downward slope. The key concepts holding these successful organizations together are organizational culture and behavior, diversity, communication, business ethics, and change management. Each of these concepts separately cannot help an organization become successful, but together these concepts play an important role within an organization. To understand this though each concept has to be broken down and defined. A key element in understanding these concepts is the observable aspects of each of these concepts starting with organizational culture and behavior.
Organizational Culture and Behavior
Organizational culture is the ambience and personality of the organization that guides the behavior of the individuals and groups within an organization and organizational behavior is a study of the behavior by those individuals and groups (Schermerhorn, Hunt, & Osborn, 2008). An observable aspect of organizational culture is noticeable when the employees are working together to accomplish the mission and goals of the organization. An observable aspect of organizational behavior is noticeable sometimes by walking into an organization and is greeted by an employee with a smile on his or her face. That smile is a type of behavior and can lead to others smiling. Organizational culture and behavior together help make the foundation strong for any organization, but it is not enough. Sometimes obstacles can emerge and because of this organizations can struggle. Diversity could be one of those obstacles.
