Decisions in Paradise Part Two

Kava is an island in the South Pacific that has been through many trials and tribulations. Like discussed earlier, Kava has a population of mostly fifteen year olds and face natural disasters almost every day. Hayes Development Center has sent me, Nik, to help Kava get its economy back up. This paper will look at the decision making technique that Hayes Development Center has chosen to use and specific steps to applying these techniques. This paper will also look at the definition and elements of critical thinking.

Decision Making Technique

Hayes Development Center has decided that the best decision making technique would be the rational decision making model. The rational decision making model is a cognitive process that involves steps that follow a logical order. It comes to the best potential result by thinking through and weighing up the alternatives (Rational Decision Making Model, n.d.). There are five steps to the rational decision making model. Step one is to define the decision/situation to be made, step two is to identify the important criteria for the process and the result, step three is to consider all the possible solutions, step four is to calculate the consequences of the solutions vs. the likelihood of satisfying the criteria, and step five is to choose the best option available (Rational Decision Making Model, n.d.).

Steps to Apply

Kava is known for disasters that happen almost every day. These disasters include typhoons, AIDS/HIV, petroleum spills, tornadoes, and fires. To be able to have a successful business to be able to help Kava, Hayes Development Center should look for the safest place to build their building. Looking for the safest area will allow for less damage to be done when a natural disaster does hit the island of Kava.
