What is meant by the term media convergence with regard to technology, and how has it affected everyday life? | Media convergence, with regards to technology, is the reference towards the different technologies that will eventually inhabit some form of familiar utility. One of the best examples of this is the smart phone, although there are many utilities outside a phone that converge a calculator, cameras, etc. Media convergence with regards to technology also means that now a day there is such a fine line between traditional media and non traditional media, that they are almost considered to be one in the same. Years ago you could clearly see the difference between newspapers and TVs. But now take a look at thoughts such things. They both have websites where you can read your daily newspaper and watch your favorite shows. Certain web sites can now run the news in actual time, which can be watched on your smart phone, just as you where sitting right in front of your television. Movies and shows are the same way when viewed using the internet as there are on your smart phones. By having the use of social media, people sitting right at home can participate right along in real time, instead of waiting until it is broadcasted several hours later. Convergence is not a technological process or a technological shift anymore, it can include different degrees of movements within the cultural and social paradigms that will and can encourage the public to find out new information. Basically, convergence is the way the public acts towards one another on a social level and how we use different media to make new and improved experiences and content that helps connect us on a social level. |
