Sample Solution Notes
The information contained in this document is an example of the material that
markers are given to mark case exams. This will give candidates an insight to the
marking methods used in a typical case exam marking centre.
The assessment and solution notes on the following pages are not presented as a
report. However, they provide some relevant analyses that may be seen in the
candidate responses.
To assist the markers in understanding the competency-based assessment
environment, for each component of the analyses there is an indication of which
competency (e.g. E1, F3) the component is related to (i.e. under which competency the
solution component is assessed). Note that one component often affects the
assessment of multiple competencies.

OVERALL GENERAL EXPECTATIONS
The analyses provided in the solution notes are more complete and extensive than what
would be expected from a candidate during a four-hour Case Examination, but may be
expected for an assignment or Board Report where there is no time restriction.
However, these solution notes do not include all the valid points that can be made.
In answering the case in an examination setting, candidates are expected to use their
judgement in assessing which issues are the most relevant and to what extent these
issues should be analyzed. A reasonable amount of both quantitative and qualitative
analyses of the current situation and the options available should be provided.
