A Story Analysis Using Simple Philosophical Approach

Orly and Virgie

Values

The author didn’t exercise the right values. At first she was excited to have two siblings, Virgie and Orly but weeks pass she became selfish, envied and immature. She compares the attention given by her parents to her between the attentions given to the orphan especially to Orly. She missed being the only girl loved by her parents. She became rude to Orly even the little orphan try to please her. It is not right to treat badly on a certain person who hasn’t done anything wrong to you.

If the author shows right values, she will then stand as a role model to her brother and to her two temporary siblings especially that she is the oldest among the four children. She must consider the value of family (family oriented), even though those orphan are her temporary siblings, they must being treated as a part of their family. And also, a value of being helpful, she knows that those children really need a little attention from a family like she has. Also a value of generosity, she is blessed to have a happy family, why don’t she share it to others.

Dialogue

In this story, dialogue is not properly exercise. The author never give the orphans a chance to express their feelings, she never hear their little cries that they badly need to become a part of their family. And we can also the blame the parents, because they never talked to their daughter. They never explain anything to let her especially, that at her young age she must still be guided by her parents, so that they will let her know that what she is doing is not right anymore.

And if Dialogue had been properly used, the author must realize that those orphan, Orly and Virgie, had done nothing bad at all to her, she must suppose to give a little attention to them because all of their lives, they never experience having a family like hers that will guide and love them.
