Ethical Models/Rules/Views

Ethics came from one of the philosophy branches; moral philosophy to be precise and it involves the concepts of right and wrong behavior. It’s the same in business management, companies should know about what is acceptable and the right things to do and try not to harm the community. Business management professors decided to list some models and views about ethics in management, so they came up with a concept called Social Responsibilities which can be described in many ways, for instance some companies only think about making profits or other companies tend to focus on the community and environment. The best way to describe Social Responsibilities is to compare it to some of the other concepts, Such as Social Obligation and Social Responsiveness. Social Obligation means that a firm engages in some actions to meet certain economic or legal responsibilities, so a firm does what its obligated to do and nothing more, This type of thinking is exactly the same as the Classical View of social responsibility which means that the only management’s responsibility is to maximize profits and to the best interests of the stockholders and if a management decides to do some charity work then the money spent would be considered as cost. The other concepts – social responsiveness and social responsibility- reflects the Socioeconomic View which means that the management responsibilities go beyond making profits, for example improving society’s welfare. The management responsibilities are not only focused on the stockholders but the larger society also. Many organizations-about 85%- around the world have embraced this view. Social Responsiveness means that a management engages in social activities in response to the larger society needs, usually managers in these firms are guided by the social values and norms.
