Abstract

The health care industry is in a steadfast search for more advanced technologies and equipment to employ in every health care organization. This is a goal to ensure a competitive advantage in offering the best medical care to its patients. The upgrading of health services while lowering the cost of operation in the health care industry is vital in ensuring the success of such an industry. An information system is a vital organ in the organization and must be critically analyzed before its selection by a health care company. The system should be well designed to help and enable the organization meet current objectives. The selection of an information system involves various parties that determine the suitability of an information system before it is implemented. The respective stakeholders, administration, medical staff, and even patients influence the decision-making process in selecting and acquiring an information system.

This briefing will elaborate on the process of selecting and acquiring an information system, and how the goals of the organization influence this choice. The role that various stakeholders play in the selection of an information system also is covered.

Selecting and Acquiring an Information System

Stakeholders in all departments must be involved in the process of selecting an information system from the start. The separate departments have an exchange of the knowledge of their expertise and terminologies to integrate the system maximally to the various departments. The information system to be chosen must enable the data in the organization to be presented in the correct order and form to avoid confusion in the organization.
