With the pending merger on our heels, employee relations with management has been tense and overall morale is down. In a proactive attempt to minimize further issues I'd like to address the importance of the type of behavior that you as managers exhibit. As the sales frontline managers you are responsible for optimizing all resources that are available to you for optimal productivity. The most important of these resources that has been overlooked in this merger are our employees, our human resources. As managers you have the authority to influence the actions and behavior of the subordinate staff and thus you ultimately impact the productivity of the business and the success of this merger. Successful and appropriate leadership should inspire creativity, productivity, and overall a satisfying quality of work life. The following guidelines need to be put into practice to maximize management effectiveness and improve employee performance.
• Management is required to treat employees fairly, with dignity, and respect while promoting teamwork. Focus should be on employees and management operating the business together.
• Employee empowerment will go a long way in repairing damaged employee management relations. People work harder, smarter, and more responsibly when they have increased involvement, control, and say in their work. Democratic leadership encourages employees to build skill and competence levels resulting in a win-win scenario.
• Managers are to have an open door policy which encourages a positive two way flow of ideas and regular communications.
