Critical Response Paper #3
International Relations I
Political Science
My proposal for a system of government would not stray far from that of the United States however some key portions would be changed in order to maintain the integrity of the government and philosophy of regulation. I would provide a Constitutional Republic including the three equal branches, Judicial, Legislative and Executive. Together, these would provide a system of checks and balances to regulate the power of each branch. Elections would not be limited to parties and voting would be a highly regulated right. Religion would be allowed as long as it did not become militant or infringe on the rights or safety of other citizens.
None of the three branches would have more power than the others. Nor would any have members elected by another branch. All branches would have term limits of 4 years and be elected by the people. This would be done to preserve the integrity of the offices held. Elected citizens would leave their traditional jobs to serve the people in public office and then return to their traditional job after serving. Laws would apply to all citizens and would not exclude members of government to ensure that less than ideal laws would not be bestowed on the people. Political parties would really not exist. We would be a government of people who are sworn to maintain the basic ideals of the country. Those who have ideas of changing the government fundamentally would not be able to win election.
The Electoral process would mandate education of laws and proof of citizenship. Citizens would need to test on their knowledge of the government and its ideals in order to obtain a voter ID. Voting would not be allowed for criminals, foreigners or current people in office.
Immigration would be encouraged but highly enforced. Those wanting to join our nation would be required to assimilate to it fully including language and culture. Immigrants could run for office...
