Women are being harassed more than men in the workplace

Sexual harassment will be the best one that I chose to work on among the three topics given. According to Henslin (1997), unwanted sexual advances, whether touches, looks, pressures to have sex or even jokes is defined as sexual harassment. It is obvious that there are cases of harassment involve male victims; cases on men harassed the women and same-sex harassment cases. Based on my reading, research reveals women are victims of sexual harassment approximately three and one-half times more often than men. Therefore, I want to be more focused on the issue of women are being harassed more than men in the workplace.

There are many signs of behaviors that can be recognized as a sexual harassment especially in the workplace. I think this is due to the issue of violence against women and discrimination. The behaviors can be divided into several types such as verbal, non-verbal (physical), visual, and psychological. For example of verbal behavior, the first California’s sexual harassment case in 1976 was experienced by Anita Hill. She was being harassed by her former colleague, Justice Clarence Thomas. Thomas used inappropriate language and sexually harassed Anita when they worked together. (Fabio, M, 2006). In my opinion, these behaviors will give negative impacts to the person who had been harassed such as psychological problems and health problems. As we know, women are too sensitive and soft-hearted so they are fragile and get depressed easily as well as gradually losing their confidence in their ability to do their jobs. The effects of harassment in workplace are not only on the health or psychology of an individual but also to the company as a whole. I think, the employees who are victimized will take the simplest way to avoid this by staying off work with some excuse or in another word, absent.
