Introduction

Organizational behavior (OB) is the study and the application of how individual, people or group of people interact/act within an organization. OB does this by using the system approach .The interpretation of this relationship is done in terms of the whole people, whole organization, whole society in which the organization exist. This is done in order to achieve the individual, organizational and social objectives.

Organization

Here the organization considered is the construction company which specializes in the construction of roads and buildings in which I was working as a Manager. I have been involved in the construction business for the past 8 years .This organization is a family business .The company has existed since the last 35 years .The people involved in the organization can be shown in the form of hierarchy as follows

Work situation

The work situation being considered here is my last project in which I was involved till mid way after which I had to leave for my MBA studies. The project was the construction of 7 storey industrial building in a place called Silvassa, India which is a 5 hour drive from the city center where our office was. In this project due to excess work in hand and shortage of labor we had hired a local sub contractor to do the job on our behalf and it was proving cheap to use the local labors. The project had a tight schedule as the work had to be done in a span of six months from September 2006 which is a rainy season in India which was very difficult to attain but since our client was a very old one we couldn’t refuse the job knowing the risks involved in it. The initial investment which had to be invested was around Rs.10 crore which was the advance payment given to the suppliers for the supplies of materials and the rent of equipments at the work site as in our line of work money in the form of cash has to be paid in advance in order to get the raw materials for work and there was no credit...
