Individuals become motivated by different things at different times in his or her life. The desire to complete a graduate degree is no exception to this rule. While some may see the attainment of a graduate degree as a means of personal achievement, others may view it as a method for increasing income. Despite differences in motivation, one commonality exists among the master’s degree seeking population. Graduate education is necessary for those with the desire to remain competitive in the workforce. My personal motivation stems from this actualization as well as the desire to increase income and to set an example for my children.

With the National unemployment rate hanging steady at 10%, the need to remain competitive in the workforce is eminent (U.S. Department of Labor, p.1). The slowly returning economy has left many individuals seeking employment or finding themselves beginning new careers. While I have been fortunate enough to secure employment, I find myself in a position unrelated to my educational degree. Obtaining a Master’s degree in Business Administration will enhance my previously obtained business management knowledge. This coupled with my past management experience and my current education and training experience promotes a competitive advantage. This force in change has also helped to sculpt my career aspirations of teaching business courses at the collegiate level.

Securing a position as a software educator has allowed me to demonstrate my natural leadership abilities and outgoing personality to another level than that of my management positions. Growth in this area and in my management skills and knowledge shall allow for an expansion of employment opportunities.
