Abstract

For one to be able to make a solid decision on whether or not to invest in a specific industry, thorough research must be done to provide an investor with a comprehensive understanding of all of the impacting factors. Satellite Telecommunications is a fast-changing, ever-growing industry. Researching growth opportunities, understanding the competitive rivals and their positioning, as well as analyzing key success factors are just some of the major components that provide a background for where this industry stands today and its potential for the future. How each of these factors interrelates is just an important. This paper is a summary of an in-depth analysis of the Satellite Telecommunications external environment. It provides potential investors with enough information to conclude that investing in this industry is a sound business decision.

The Satellite Telecommunications Industry, as indicated by IBISWorld reports, is one of the smallest industries in the US, however it is increasing in demand (Boyd, 2012). Think about the culture we live in today: how many people own cell phones? How many businesses rely on the internet to run their company? Think about the Federal Government alone! When one answers these questions, one see’s the reliance our culture has on technology. What is the major underlying factor here: Satellite Telecommunications. This industry, although small, is how we are able to have Direct-to-home TV, wireless and internet services and secure avenues of communication for emergency responders and war fighters.
