The Implementation Phase is the final phase of the SDLC and it involves the actual construction and installation of a system. This phase also includes the maintenance of the system and any future updates or expansion of the system. It’s important to know this because you can make or break the entire process here if it’s not done correctly and thoroughly.

Because this is a new system within a healthcare organization you will need to ensure that the process goes smoothly while patient care is going on. This is not like creating a system for an organization that is just getting on its feet, the healthcare organization needs to maintain its patient care at all levels. The first problem that I see will be the initial installation of the hardware to each station. From previous experience working in a hospital I know that the pharmacy is one of the busy areas and one that can cause the most problems if not done correctly. You will need to determine the amount of patient windows that will be utilized and that you have enough equipment to accommodate them all. Ergo dynamics is another integrated part into the system, healthcare organizations in the Army have a program manager that ensure work stations are Ergo friendly to the healthcare workers. This can be anything from how the monitors are placed to the type of keyboards used. Once we determine that course of action for the stations we need to think about the thousands of pharmaceutical drugs being used and how our system will work with them all. Our system has to have drug automation capabilities that will not only separate out pills...
