Abstract

This paper focuses on the growing impact of sexual harassment cases in the workplace. It analysis what sexual harassment is and who the harassed are. Sexual Harassment has moved through the workplace over the last 5 decades. Laws have been enforced to protect individuals from Quid Pro Quo, or severe and pervasive harassment. However, in 2007 workplace harassment is having a strong impact on our society. The focus of this paper is to inform that sexual harassment happens and employers and employees need to know how affective this epidemic is. To provide clear expectations and concerns of this paper I research such authors as McGowan, Glazer, Rutter, Dessler, Ryan, Oppenheimer, Rotundo, Nguyen, & Sackett. Cases studies where provided to ensure a mental understanding of harassment laws and the effects it has on our society. The information provided shows the definition by law of “Sexual Harassment”. The information informs where this law originated from and how it can result in harsh outcomes. This paper recommends solutions to prevent workplace harassment, along with techniques and trainings for a positive workplace environment. In the conclusion of the paper, you will explore the history of sexual harassment and how it has evolved over the last 5 decades.

Introduction

Sexual harassment has risen over the last 15 years to an unprecedented amount. There are so many cases that are brought into the courts, several of these cases have resulted in large settlements; most of these cases were brought to the surface after several years of silence.
