The definition of Accountability in the Military is the obligation imposed by law or lawful order or regulation on an officer or other person for keeping accurate record of property, documents, or funds. The person having this obligation may or may not have actual possession of the property, documents, or funds. Accountability is concerned primarily with records, while responsibility is concerned primarily with custody, care, and safekeeping.

The reason that accountability is important is to keep track of important and sensitive items so that these items do not get lost and fall into the wrong hands. If some of these items were to fall into the wrong hands they could be used against you or other people for harmful means. For instance if the enemy got their hands on your Identification they could modify it to get onto a post and attack you and your buddies.

Losing accountability of your ID, Debit Card, and or Credit Cards could lead to Identity Theft. Identity theft could hurt because the person is able to take credit out under your name. They basically are you and you may not even realize it until it is too late. Once you realize it your credit is shot, you cannot buy a house or a car. If you maintain accountability of any of these items you have a better chance of avoiding this problem. Losing accountability of your military items will also cost you money.

You may not be fully prepared to do the job when the time comes. Losing accountability also puts you and your fellow soldiers at risk because you are not prepared and the enemy might have your items. The enemy then has the ability to impersonate you and impersonate a soldier. You put not only yourself at risk when losing accountability of your items.

Security specialists strongly agree that it is unacceptable to lose government security badges by leaving them unattended in unlocked vehicles. In fact, most contractor policies require locking vehicles as a minimum deterrent to badge theft. Badge-holders...
