Abstract

This paper explores the differences and similarities between the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) and the American Counseling Association (ACA). The current paper compares and contrast codes of ethics for the ACA and the AACC with respect to competence, colleague relationships, and fees. Code of ethics, according to Corey, Corey, and Callahan (2011), fulfill three objectives. The objectives are to educate professionals about sound ethical conduct, provide a mechanism for professional accountability, and serve as catalysts for improving practice. Regardless of the organization, most educational associations have generated some form of code of ethics in order to govern the workers in the field on how to make better decisions when faced with obstacles with their clients. This paper gives the reader a glimpse on how the ethics code relate in some areas as well as how they are different when it comes to interacting with different clients on things such as race, sex, color, religion, and sexual preference.
