With the closure of London Olympic Games, some controversies come to people attention. One of the most controversial topic is whether it is appropriate to allow disabled athletes to compete with non-handicapped athletes. It is good to see that with manmade facilities, athleteswith physical disabilities are able to perform movement as normal athletes, but it would be both immoral and unfair to allow such competition.

First, physically . One of the very spirits of Olympic Games is equality. That is all the athletes are banned from using inappropriate facility to improve their performance, such as drugs or devices. The regulators are intended to limit the game within pure competition of normal human body with no help from other resource. In the case of Oscar Pistorius, his manmade legs have already given him advantages, for being much lighter than human muscle. In the future, with the development of technology, much lighter but stable legs will come into being. Let’s image an extreme case . A man lost his arms and legs in an accident and he has his body equipped an ultra-light legs, with saving weight from both his arms and legs, this man already possess an huge advantage when he competes with normal runners. So considering all the possibilities, it is wise to not allow athletes with artificial legs to run with non-handicapped runners.

Second, making this kind of competition possible will cause moral issue. Some athletes, such as Oscar, are so outstanding that even win non-handicapped people. But it is just some of them. Most of the handicapped lives a tough life and most disables athletes do not run as fast as normal people. Now we have Oscar. What if there is no Oscar in the future? Making handicapped athletes compete with non-handicapped ones with let them lose their dignity.
