Market Analysis of Gaming Console: Sony PlayStation

A video game console is an interactive entertainment computer or modified computer system that produces a video display signal which can be used with a display device (TV/Monitor) to display a video game.

There are various companies that provide gaming consoles in Indian Market. They are Microsoft (XBOX 360), Nintendo (Wii, 3DS) and Sony Computer Entertainment (PS3, PSVITA).

The Console based Gaming Market in India is pegged at Rs. 450 Crore of which Sony under its PlayStation segment commands over 80%.

The PS3 officially went on sale in India on 27 April 2007, priced at 39,990 ($1000 at the conversion rate that time) for the 60 GB version. The PS3 slim 120GB was launched at the end of November 2009 at the price of 19,990. The PS3 Slim 250GB was launched simultaneously at the price of 22,490 and in March 2010 it was bundled with the game God of War 3 or Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

At present the 160GB slim is sold as a stand-alone pack at 16,000 (about $300), while the 320GB is sold with the PlayStation Move Bundle, Gran Turismo 5, or with Medieval Moves at about 20,000 (about $350).

Marketing:

Strategy: -

1. In keeping with its tradition of having locally influenced games in the Indian PS3 portfolio, the company would introduce Street Cricket and Cart Racing. Also, historical figures like Chandragupta Maurya will figure in the games line up in strategy focused game, called Battle Royal.

2. Sony PlayStation launched a gaming technique new to India- the Motion Controller, it allows a higher degree of player involvement.
