THE RESEARCH PAPER
A Research Paper has a fairly standard format which follows the research process in its design logic. The intent of this outline is to familiarize you with how a research paper should be prepared for this class. Groups of 2-3 students will start by working together to develop a proposal of the prospective research project. The research project topic will be chosen by the group, and must focus on some international logistics phenomena. The objective is to have a paper suitable for publication by the end of the summer semester. Because this is a semester course, time does not allow for the development of any type of primary data collection. Therefore, students will be responsible for identifying a secondary data source. There are hundreds of data sources at your disposal. For example, the library has databases with all types of company performance and financial data, while on-line sources, such as the US Department of Commerce which supports 12 different bureaus, has hundreds of databases of all kinds of information about imports, exports and production by country. The World Bank, Ex-Im Bank, Census bureau, CIA world Fact book and hundreds of other data sources also exist. You will need to select a topic related to one of these datasets which has sufficient data for empirical analysis for your project.
The Research Proposal
You will select an area of study in marketing that relates to a dataset of interest to you. You will develop a theory related to the variables measured and discuss how you will test this theory, and then prepare a 3-4 page proposal of your intended area of study and database selection. This proposal should include the topic, a research problem, specific hypotheses related to the problem, and the measures that will be used to test the hypotheses. This proposal must be approved by the Professor prior to proceeding.
The Research Paper
The research will be presented in written form and explained in detail...
