Case study: 1

Mrs Shar’s needs were disregarded because I did not have time to visit the shop where Mrs Shar preferred her food to be purchased. I only had time to go to supermarket; therefore she did not have a halal meat. I did not meet her religious beliefs. After the meeting to review her care, I was given one extra hour per week, which will enable me to go to Mrs Shar’s preferred shop, to purchase her halal meat. Therefore I am now able to meet her dietary and religious needs as result her daughter will be happier with the care.

Case study: 2

I was in the staffroom with some of my colleagues and they were discussion about James, who is one of our patients. James was disregarded because of those negative discussions. One of the social worker took advantage of his condition when James has the right to be cleaned. I have noticed how unprofessional the social worker is acting and insults James by using inappropriate language. I would therefore go and talk with the social worker first, if she ignores what I say, I will then definitely go to my manager and complain about what she has done, then I would ask for permission to take James and clean him myself, just to make James happy.

Case study: 3

My colleague was impatient with a service user who could not choose which trousers he wanted. The service user was bulled into making an inappropriate choice and was forced to take the ones she had chosen. I would therefore go and talk with my manager when we got back to the care home so my manager could talk to my colleague so she doesn’t make the same mistake next time.
