In the three readings, “Television helps but not very much”, Atheist Hit by Truck” and the letter to NY”, there are various depictions from each of this article that support the stereotypes held about New York city and what kind of people that live in it. These stereotypes includes: Openness, Crime and Busy.

In the story “Television helps but not very much” John Mcnulty talks about a lonely cabdriver who was searching for a companion. The story states how this cabdriver narrated his loneliness predicament since the death of his wife to his passenger. The stereotype that people in NYC accommodate each other was proven by this conversation between the driver and his passenger. This is because; it may not be common to see this kind of discussion among strangers in other states. Although the passenger was skeptical to respond initially because he/she was a stranger to the cabdriver and was surprised the driver was so open to him. But at the end the passenger gave the cabdriver a respond. Moreover, it could be inferred that the cabdriver was using his client for companion in as much as he was seeking for an advice as well. This is because, even though NYC people are free to themselves, it is not everybody that can talk about his life to a stranger as the cabdriver did, which means the driver’s openness may be as a result of loneliness and he was happy to have seen some one to talk to.

In additional to the above, another stereotype that is very common in NYC that happened in the one of the stories “Atheist Hit by the Trunk” is crime. It is always assumed that in NYC people do commit anonymous crime with out minding what the law says. Just as the drunk who was hit by the truck was intoxicated by alcohol; it may be common among some people in NYC to commit the same crime of being intoxicated by alcohol/or drug. The drunk in this story was only noticed because he was hit by the truck. This means that so many people in NY may be committing this kind of...
