Facility Planning

Baptist Medical Center South open in 2005 as a satellite full service community hospital with 92 beds. Services included Intensive Care, Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics, Diagnostics, Surgery, and medical or surgical nursing. The design concept was focused on patient safety.

Community Needs

Baptist Health System expanded its area of care in 2005 by building Baptist Medical Center South to serve the fast growing neighborhoods in the southern areas of Duval and northern St. Johns counties. Baptist Medical Center South is the first hospital of the 21st century in Jacksonville that offers residents access to a full-service healthcare facility (Baptist South, n.d.). The hospital combines an advanced electronic environment with Baptist Health's holistic mission of providing for the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of patients and their families Baptist South, n.d.). “Baptist Medical Center South is a faith-based, mission-driven, locally governed organization dedicated to providing high-quality care for the community” (Baptist South, n.d.).

Type of Population Serving

To meet the growing needs of southern Duval and St. Johns counties, Baptist South was build and opened in 2005. In 2007, Baptist South began the building of a patient care unit that will further increase its patient capacity, including a new Newborn Intensive Care Unit (Baptist South, n.d.).

Description of the facility

Baptist Medical Center South offers a variety of services to the community that includes a full service healthcare facility with digital invasive and non-invasive radiology suite, which includes Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT), radiography, nuclear medicine, digital screening mammography, bone densitometry, and non-invasive cardiology (Baptist South, n.d.).
