Personal Reflection Journal

I plan on graduating from UMD in the winter of 2014. I will use my extra semester to complete the requirements for a degree in Psychology to complement the Marketing degree requirements I am already working through. My immediate post-graduation employment goal is to be hired by the company my mother works for, Transnuclear, Inc.

I interned for this company over the last summer and winter in the accounting department. Through this experience I learned a lot about the company and became very interested in it. However, I also realized that accounting was no longer enjoyable for me. I thought I would like how structured the accounting field is because I am very organized and usually enjoy small, almost tedious tasks that make everything perfect. I soon realized that my love for organization only applies to my personal work and chores and does not motivate me in the workplace.

This did not stop me from learning more about where I could possibly fit in at Transnuclear. I spoke to my mother about other business degrees that she thought I would be interested in and we decided marketing could be a good fit. When I went back to Transnuclear, I spoke to Stephane Arakelian, Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, about possible marketing internships for next summer. I plan on following up with him soon, performing well next summer, and keeping in contact with him when I graduate in order to attain a full-time position at that point.

If I am able to secure a low-level marketing job at Transnuclear after graduation, I plan on working my way up the corporate ladder just as my mother (who is now President and CEO) did. In five years I hope to earn at least one raise, but do not expect to be promoted quite so early within my career. However, I hope to become the Marketing Manager by the time I have spent ten years with the company.

Immediately upon graduation, I expect to have a low level marketing job (maybe even simply a paid internship)....
