MEMORANDUM REGARDING MANAGEMENT BEHAVIOR

From: Mid-Level Sales Manager

To: First-Level Managers

Subject: Manager Behavior and InterClean, Inc and EnviroTeach Merger

Over the past several months, all managers have received a series of memorandum detailing the merger of InterClean, Inc. and EnviroTech. In the near future the plans will be finalized and I feel now is the best time to discuss the importance of adopting the management behaviors that should be exhibited to all of our employees – whether they are current or future employees. As with any change the merger has caused a wide range of concerns in the company and as managers, we need to alleviate these concerns as quickly as possible.

Behavioral expectations are in place for all managers and how that behavior can impact workers’ performance and productivity; the type of actions that are and are not in line with employment laws; and the best practices for working within a diverse work environment. The behavior or attitude of a manger can have a positive or a negative impact on workers, if a manager is always in a bad mood and that mood is projected onto their workers, they in-turn will soon have that same attitude when coming to work, their job satisfaction rate and productivity plummet. Cascio 2005, states that “Managers are interested in employees’ job satisfaction and commitment principally because of the relationship between attitudes and behavior, (pg 46). Employees who are positively motivated will have a much higher productivity level than employees who have a lack of managerial focus, direction and goals.

Also, as is often the case with mergers, employees fear the loss of their job and their productivity is greatly affected by this fear. Job loss is always a possibility and great care must be taken to reassure all that nothing has been decided and it would be premature to jump to any conclusions that may not even happen.
