Introduction
Leadership is a way of management and life. Just like life it comes in all different types if styles and is unique to each leader. In this paper I will be discussing the leadership style and model that I prefer to use. I will also discuss the strengths and weakness of the style and model that I use as well as other leadership styles and theories that contrast to my own.
Consultation Participative Leadership Style
The leadership style that best to lead my staff would be a Participative leadership Style. Since my concerns lie both in tasks and people, I would naturally include others in my decision-making. Although the participative leadership has four different decision procedures I cannot necessarily say that I can subscribe to one type of decision-making procedure. There are the autocratic decisions where a manager makes a decision by him or herself taking in no input from others. Then there is the consultation where the manager asks other people for their opinions and ideas, then makes the decision alone after seriously considering their suggestions and concerns. The joint decision is where the manager meets with others to discuss the decision problem and make a decision together. And then there is the delegation where the manager gives the individual, or group, the authority and responsibility for making a decision, however the manager may specify the limits within which the final choice must fall, and approval may be needed before the decision can be implemented. Depending on the situation the decision process may vary to accommodate the reason why a decision must be made.
