In 1997 after a $40.00 late fee was incurred, from the rental of Apollo 13 at a Blockbuster store the idea for a new way to rent videos became apparent. Netflix was born. By April 1998 Netflix was launched and its only innovation involved the conscience of ordering movies over the internet and returning them by mail. In 1999 Netflix changed their terms from pay-per-rentals by mail and most importantly, no due dates for returns. Later adding a queue system so each customer can put the movies they want to watch in queue and when they return the movie rental, the next movie on the list is automatically shipped without hesitation.

To be a DVD inspector for Netflix and to have a good person-job fit you must be able to work independently without a lot of instructions knowing what your job duties are and how to preform them without fail. This is extremely important since the first shift at the warehouse starts as early as 3am. To be a DVD inspector you would have to be able to work at a fast pace, with minimal distractions and have the ability to inspect mass amounts of DVDs in a short time frame. In the case of the Chicago warehouse where the employees have to sign a confidential agreement, they have to enter through a less than obvious door, and will have limited outside contact during their work hours. If Netflix insists on keeping up the highly secretive location, giving the associates a little more freedom when they arrive to work would help with the overall moral. I know that in the nature of their business that speeds and production is important, however giving your associates a few more luxuries and little less extreme to the structure. Having few distractions would be important when processing such quantities but, a little freedom I wouldn’t think would slow production down that much.
