Large scale organisation characteristics- Number of employees, the Australian bureau of statistics defines LSO as those employing 200 or more people. Total Assets- the Australian bureau of statistics also determines the size of an organisations based on their total assets, its considered large if has more than 200 million in total assets. Annual Total revenue- large organisations have income or sales revenue in the billions of dollars. Net profit after tax- large organisations make profits in the millions of dollars after tax. Extent of operations- Many large scale organisations are transnational corporations also known as multinational corporations, this means that the business is owned and based in one country and has branches in other countries. Types of LSO- Corporations- they aim to make a profit or add to their net assets. Corporations are also know as companies, corporations are either privately owned by upto 50 private shareholders or are listed on the stock exchange and publicly owned by many shareholders. Government Departments- they aim to provide services to the community in order to satisfy social or political objectives, they are owned by the government and are responsible to them. Example- Australian taxation office and centre link. Government business enterprises- they aim to provide a service or product to the public and make a profit in doing so, they are owned by the government and shareholders. Charities and foundations- Charities exist to provide assistance in the form of goods, services or finances to the disadvantaged or marginalised groups in society. They work to help specific social problems for the benefit of the community. Example- World vision and salvation army. Foundations help people by giving money to those that need it, under strict guidelines and for a specific purpose.
