Globalization
Globalization is a phenomenon that is changing the world and the way people live. International institutions such as the World Bank, NGO, IMF and World trade organization link people from different societies who share different beliefs and values together. Globalization has become a transnational relationship that eliminates distances and even borders between states. Globalization has manifested and will continue to manifest itself through various forms such as the slow disappearance of social borders and barriers, the appreciation as well as the greater acceptance of foreign cultures. Moreover, one cannot speak about globalization without mentioning the importance of global governance which is a result of an increasing interdependence. The idea of interdependency is continuously evolving on a global scale and its influence is so deeply rooted into the Haitian culture that it unfortunately began to lose its authenticity.
Growing up as a kid in Haiti in the early 1990s, though I was too naïve to realize it at the time, we as Haitians had unknowingly embraced the American culture and the American way of living as if they were our own. I mostly watched American produced films not because I wanted to but because that is what was only being shown on television in Haiti at the time. As I got older, I began dressing noticeably different than some of my peers and to my parents to some extent when they were my age. I wanted to cut my hair a certain way, look a certain and speak in a certain manner that felt cool internally. Now looking back, it has become a little clearer how globalization, in a very small, has shaped who I am as a person.
Global governance is the making of rule and power exercise at a global scale. Since developing countries depend on the powerful states, the powerful states take upon themselves to make the rules and call the shots however they are doing so...
