What measures and mechanisms are necessary to develop and institute a proactive affirmative action program that would secure and protect the rights of employees?

The civil rights of 1964 were designed to afford equality of opportunity and treatment to all individuals regardless their race, color, religion, sex and national origin. An affirmative action could be defined as the set of policies that take factors including race, color, religion, gender, and sexual orientation in order to benefit an underrepresented group within a company or education.

Affirmative action is a remedial step taken to ensure that those who have been victims of discrimination in the past are given the opportunity to work in positions they would have attained had there not been discrimination. (Marianne. M. Jennings, 2009, Business its legal, ethical and global environment, 8th edition, p 659).

The affirmative action involves the steps employers or company must take in order to offer equal employment opportunity to all applicants regardless their difference.

The affirmative action put in place by companies must be in written words in order to allow any recruiter or human resource employee to follow the guideline required by the company.

The following are some measures to develop and institute affirmative action that would secure and protect the rights of employee within a company:

* Applicant for position in the company need not to be identified prior to the recruitment process

* Recruiters must interview all jobs candidates on the same basis

* Selection of the candidate must be done based on the necessary qualifications for the position applied not on personal judgment

* After the selection, the result must be sent to the EEOC department of the company in order to confirm the HR department decision

* Promote often minorities employee in order to give them the same growth opportunity in the company
