Google Culture and Management

Amongst the many cutting edge companies of the 21st century stands Google. Though founded in 1998, this company flourished in the modern work force. Google company is highly reputable in the competitive e-commerce arena. The culture of Google is diverse, open and free; thereby creating a hands-on atmosphere with universal opinions and ideas. Creativity is an essential part of those core concepts within the Google culture. As a result of implementing this culture, the employees sought out are intelligent, goal oriented visionaries who come from all walks of life. According to Google (2012), "We strive to maintain the open culture often associated with startups, in which everyone is a hands-on contributor and feels comfortable sharing ideas and opinions" (Culture).

The employee's in this company tend to use the adoption style of mastery goals versus performance. Hired staff at this company have illustrated productive ways of thinking, behaving and feeling moreover the performance goals associated with negative performance. These two sets of goals are well explained in our week 2 reading; Reeve (2009), "is associated with positive and productive ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving, whereas the adoption of performance goals in an achievement context is associated with relatively negative and unproductive ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving" (p.184).

Google Mission

Mission statements represent current conditions of the company while the company vision represents the future (Hamilton, 2011). According to "Google" (2012), "Google’s mission is to organize the world‘s information and make it universally accessible and useful" (Mission). Google tries to provide its users with accurate and precise information as requested. Users will find a plethora of information along with useful products which support services for both home and office along with mobile applications.
