In any organization, associates have different motivations of performing at work. There are four people at a company that share the same goal which is to obtain a promotion. All four individuals, who are Ella, Marcelo, Masoko, and Sam, possess different motivational theories and their approach to move up in the workplace varies. The three motivational theories are biological, psychosocial, and interactionist. The fourth theory is a realistic approach, which is a combination of all the theories.

Ella’s motivational drive is supported on the biological theory. She is driven in accomplishing her goal of getting a promotion. Ella’s basic needs of survival will drive her to advance. If Ella is in need of getting a promotion due to more money to live comfortably, she will do whatever it takes to obtain her goal. An emotion of fear for Ella can serve as a motivator because of the fear of not accomplishing a task in order to gain a promotion.

Marcelo’s motivation is based on the psychosocial theory. Marcelo’s motivation is determined by an inner force that stimulates him to accomplish personal goals. His motivations may be from the enjoyment in the workplace and the interesting work. Marcel’s eagerness to feel happy and content is a motivator because of his want to obtain a new and exciting position.

Masoko is motivated through the interactionist theory. This theory is determined by a person’s surroundings. Masoko’s perspective changes each time he interacts with an individual. Through interactionist theory, people are known to adjust to the workplace. An emotions that will motivate Masoko is the feeling compassion and successful. Through these emotions, his motivation will create a positive mindset in order to gain a promotion.

Since all three individuals have different motivation styles, each of them will put different efforts to obtain a promotion. Elle will strive harder to earn more money to secure her basic needs of food and shelter. If she were to have...
