Requirement Gathering Method Selected – Questionnaire

A questionnaire (or form) is one of the requirement gathering techniques that appear in a group or sequence of questions designed to obtain information on a subject from a respondent. Questionnaires include forms used for sample surveys as well as administrative forms that are used to collect data. However questionnaire itself has a major impact on data quality since the questionnaire is the process whereby data are collected.

A questionnaire must have all the necessary information that must be known why each question is being asked and how the information is to be used. The question working must be clear and also be sequenced logically for the respondent so that the questions designed are easily understood and can be see accurately answered by the respondents. Finally, the questionnaire should be tested before implementation.

For a well-designed questionnaire, it should meet the following requirement:

* Collect data efficiently with a minimum number of errors and inconsistencies

* Be respondent friendly and interviewer friendly

* Lead to an overall reduction in the cost and time associated with data collection

Benefit of Questionnaire

Speed

Questionnaire is usually faster and cheaper than observing while interviewers have more control over their data gathering activities compared to observers. As a result, less time is typically wasted in a questionnaire study. For example, in a study to find whether students prefer public transportation or personal transportation, one could either ask people their preference or wait in front of the school to observe which students come to school by which sort of transportation. However, questionnaire could proceed from one respondent to another with no wait in between. Thus, the lost time would be less with the questionnaire method.
