Executive Summary

In our analysis of BP we have looked at a number of areas in terms of its management in its past, present and future.

Firstly we looked at how BP has developed over the years rising up to becoming one of the most prominent companies in the oil industry and how that has suddenly changed with the Gulf Oil Spill in April 2010.

Next we analysed the business from an external viewpoint looking at the positive and negative aspects of its setup highlighting its opportunities and threats. We then analysed the company internally examining the effects of the oil spill on its sales and revenue and investigating their plans of maintaining and strengthening their competitive advantage.

From our analysis we derived the strengths and weaknesses in BP. We have focused on the main areas on how they could exploit these strengths and eradicate the weaknesses.

After this we examined the Strategic Implications of BP’s business. This ranges from their reputation to environmental advancements to their profitability in recent times.

Finally we set out the action plans of BP to make the above strategies a reality. Firstly how to reverse the damage done to their reputation after the recent oil spill in the gulf, secondly to further advance their work in renewable energy and finally to get the company back to its previous level of profitability and finally a further focus on improving safety so as to prevent the likes of the catastrophe seen in the Gulf Oil Spill.

BP oil is a global company founded in 1909, its one of the largest oil producers in the world. BP Norge AS is owned by BP Global Investment and Amoco Norway Oil Company, both being part of the BP group. BP has over 22,000 service stations and has 16 refineries and employs over 80,000 people worldwide.
